I had trouble closing my dresser drawers this afternoon. I pushed harder on the thick padding of shirts and pants. No movement. It was full - really, really full. I tossed the remaining pieces of clothing from the neatly folded laundry pile back onto my bed.
Now I must interject, it’s not that this dresser [...]

Judgement Isn’t Coming

It has already begun.

“Hold on,” you say, “What are you talking about, Tim?”

Simply this. When looking at Romans 1, many readers think “Wow, our nation is going to be ‘judged’ soon” or “God’s wrath is going to be revealed very soon!” But if we just take a look around us, we can see the wrath of God being revealed as is spoken of in Romans 1 (I am not speaking of the final judgement).

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

Yet we still have the glorious gospel, God’s grace on sinning sinners.

  1. Palmboy Says:

Before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, he bargined with Abraham. If he could find just a few good men, he would spare the city. Our nation has many many good men. Our doom as a nation is not urgent, nor impending.

  2. Sparky Says:

Sodom and Gomorrah was not the only case of judgement in the Bible, it was simply the second worst(Noah’s ark was the worst).

God will judge sin because sin has consequences. We as Christians have had our sin washed away by the blood of Jesus, however our national sins still stand. God has judged countries in the past who turned to wickedness; Israel, Rome, Germany are a few that come to mind right away.

God is not limited to judging nations or people to the extent he judged Sodom, Gomorrah or the world before the flood. His judgment can be on a smaller scale. For examples I point to Israel and Judah going into captivity, David judged for his sins concerning Bathsheba (2 Sam. 12), Moses judged for smiting the rock (Num.7-13), Ananias and Sapphira judged for lying to the Holy Ghost (Acts 5), and judgement that was going to happen to the Church in Thyatira if they didn’t repent (Rev. 2:18-24).

    God will judge sin.

However the story doesn’t end there. If we as a nation turn to God will all our heart, soul, mind and strength, he will forgive us our sins. Forgiveness of sin comes only through Christ Jesus; may American’s turn to him.
